This is a continuation to this.

Dust, is what happens if you don't plan your map out. DaveJ'
Making-Off Blog explains pretty well the mistakes he did. An unplanned map which resulted in a fucktacular gameplay, obviously. It heavily favors the CT's (2 routes for the t's whereas 4 ones for the CT's) and is overall very deathmatchy. With todays standards the orginal (1.6) Dust appears somewhat like an arena than an arab town. For a map that does it better, de_bahrain by warbeast (CS 1.6 too, although there have been Source versions of it) is like dust. Except it's pretty much better in every aspect. If you run a custom map server or anything like that, I'd strongly recommend it.

The result of dust was that other good maps that appeared later such as de_fang and de_iraq were not accepted by the comunity very well. Cs_iraq failed at the point that it looked like dust but played much differently. It was complicated and much bigger. Same as de_fang (by the same guy who made de_nuke) except it looked totally different. An even worse result is that there are around 20.000 other dusts like de_dust2002, de_dust2_1337, de_dust4, de_dust4ever, de_dust_cartoonv3, de_dust_castle, fy_dust2ex and fy_dustworld, just to call the few ones I have discovered in my map folder and here I only mean the ones in my CS 1.6 folder. For your sake, I left out CZ and Source. Many other maps utilize dust textures as well. Noone wants to see them anymore. They are outdated and ugly. Other maps have awesome textures as well.
Dust now looks much better with Source, but I still wouldn't really believe it's a real town that could exist in this world. Cs_backalley does a much better job there by the way, those fuckers shall finally port it to source. D:<
